I've been up and down the California coast many times and the views always thrill me whether winding through rolling green foothills or teetering on the edge of a cliff plunging into the ocean. On our last trip we started in La Jolla and drove through Big Sur with a stop in Cambria. With the ever changing weather and light, the views are always mesmerizing. Here are some of them. We saw otters drifting in the surf and whale spouts in the distance, but these were too far away to photograph. Seals and pelicans are so used to being around tourists it was easy to get some close-ups. All photos Copyright 2015 Alice Gebura All Rights Reserved.
It was great to spend a week in California and get away from winter for a bit. We drove up the coast and took a tour of the Hearst Castle which we hadn't done before. I'm not sure what WR Hearst's point was in building this silly thing, but the land is beautiful and I enjoyed the views. When looking at satellite photos of Minnesota, Roman noticed large swaths of wilderness in the northern part of the state. So, Friday morning the four of us left cold, drizzly St. Paul for the north shore of Lake Superior and its promise for a wilderness experience. Years ago Rocky, Roman, and I went to Berklee together – kindred spirits coming of age in jazz and baseball infused Boston when Newbury Street was still a student ghetto. Our friendship is eternal, what more can I say. Roman is Parisian and he and his wife Bibi are in the states for a vacation. Bibi is wonderful and the four of us have great adventures, dramatic conversations, and drink a lot of French wine. More »

The Cape Ann peninsula is one of my favorite places to wander. It is quintessential New England: rocky coast, beaches, fishing, history, old New England architecture, artists' colonies, and lobster!! More »
