I had an amazing photo shoot this morning with Randy Sabien.
A few weeks ago we did a shoot at the University Club in St. Paul and our goal there was to get a standard portrait with nice lighting and a good background. I posted some of the results on this blog and soon we’ll be adding photos to Randy’s web site that people can download for publicity purposes when he does concerts, etc.
This morning’s photo shoot had a different goal.
Randy wants a set of photos to reflect his off-stage personality. Since he loves to fish, we decided do some fishing photos. For a location I chose Lake Hiawatha in Minneapolis for its scenic shoreline. I used my iPhone app The Photographer’s Ephemeris to get the data I needed on sunrise time and direction. We left for the lake at 7am to get set up in time for a 7:24am sunrise. The light was beautiful and I got this shot right off the bat.
You might be saying to yourself, “a musician needs publicity photos, but why should a small business owner like me need a professional portrait.” The answer is simple. Potential clients or customers want to know who you are and they instantly respond to a photo, much more so than to paragraphs of text. Location, props, and clothing all send a message about who you are and what you do. Following is a portrait photo of a public relations/communications professional.
I’ll be sharing more of my portrait work in this blog as a way to inspire you to get your own professional quality portrait.
